BRIGADE TRAINING

Training is held on the 3rd Sunday of each month commencing at 2pm at the station in Victoria St.

Training is a great way to meet other volunteers and to become part of the team that is Sutton Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade.

I have a desire to ensure that every occasion where we get members together, we use it to inform and better educate them in every aspect of the Brigade's operation. The commencement of a Training day is no different. I will request members who are interested, to turn up 10 minutes early at the shed and have Craig Cartwright, Colin Barrett and Geoff, demonstrate the entry to the Fire Shed, the unlocking of the various doors and where to get the keys from, how to prepare the trucks so they can be rolled out and getting the other gear that may be needed readied for use. Those interested members will benefit from such demonstrations and over time, will be equally proficient as some of you already are.

I would also request that all members wear a name badge at monthly Training. One of the greatest challenges for new members, and indeed the occasional visitor, is to be able to identify other individuals. For those who don’t have fancy name badges, I will provision sticky paper ones. Our communication on the fire ground is entirely dependent on our being able to engage and trust those alongside us. Being able to yell their name correctly is part of a successful team response. It is far better we all know who is who within the Brigade before we have to leave on an emergency response. I look forward to you collective support on this.

There are many different roles that make up the brigade other than fighting fires. There is food preparation, event organisation, administration etc.
