Community Engagement

One of the main roles of the Brigade is to provide local residents with information and advice about preparing for and protecting their properties from bush fires.

This is carried out through information sessions, street meetings, visits to the Sutton Public School and other community group meetings etc.

The Brigade is also happy to carry out property visits for residents, to provide more specific advice about preparing their property.

The Brigade also supports other groups and organisations within the community with their events and activities.

For more information or to organise a property visit, please contact Community Engagement Officer

How You Can Help Us

We need a large pool of volunteers, even if some are only called upon occasionally. Callouts occur during the day or night, weekdays or weekends. Here in Sutton we are especially keen to expand our pool of people available on weekdays during normal working hours, as many of our active members work in town.

All volunteers must complete the Basic Training course. For more information contact the Training Officer.

As well as formal training, there are familiarisation days at which trained volunteers can refresh their skills and knowledge and untrained potential volunteers can introduce themselves and check out the picture.

You may also be able to help without being at the fire front. Murrumbateman Field Days, held annually in October, is our biggest fundraising event. Helping out for an hour or so helps the brigade greatly. If you can lend a hand contact the Events Co-ordinator
